Patrick Harvie wins best politician at Green Energy Awards

Patrick Harvie MSP was named Best Politician at the 8th annual Scottish Renewables Green Energy Awards, held in Edinburgh's Assembly Rooms on 3rd December. (1) Previous winners have included First Minister Alex Salmond, former Deputy First Minister Nicol Stephen, and, in 2002, Green MSP Robin Harper.

Patrick Harvie MSP said:

"Scotland's future will only be a success if it's built on an innovative low-carbon economy, and we'll only get there if the renewable energy industry is supported to play its part. It's therefore of vital public interest for MSPs to work to deliver a fair and efficient planning system, to tackle weaknesses in grid infrastructure, and to help new technologies get across the funding gap.

"Robin Harper MSP and I consistently work to support the transformation of our energy system, generating cleanly and cutting consumption. I'm truly grateful for this wonderful recognition of the role we've played."

Niall Stuart, Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables, said:

"All the nominees have shown strong leadership in supporting renewables either at Holyrood or in Brussels, demonstrating the cross party support the renewables sector has.

"We congratulate Patrick Harvie on his award and for playing a pivotal role in the Scottish Parliament over the last 12 months in pushing renewables to the top of the political agenda.

"His campaign for a new financial incentive package on insulation as well as a loan scheme for household renewables is testament to Patrick's commitment in helping Scotland reduce its climate change emissions."

Notes

1. The award was sponsored by the British Wind Energy Association, and the other nominees in this category were Alyn Smith MEP (SNP), Rob Gibson MSP (SNP) and Liam McArthur MSP (LibDem).
